Trio charged after break-in call

A Warren man with an extensive criminal record and his two alleged accomplices were arrested last week after police say they tried to break into a shed on Almy Avenue. Now Warren detectives are looking into whether the trio had anything to do with a spat of break-ins on the Warren/Bristol line several weeks ago.

Aden Andrew Hebert, 22, of 539 Child St., first floor, was charged by Warren police with misdemeanor receiving stolen goods and resisting arrest for the incident, which occurred Monday, Dec. 5. His alleged accomplices, a 17-year-old Bristol girl and Stephanie Vaitses, 18, also of Bristol, each face identical charges: Misdemeanor receiving stolen goods and obstruction.

It all began when Warren police received a call at 11:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, from an Almy Avenue woman who said that a man wearing red and white was in her backyard, attempting to break into a shed. As police responded, the suspect fled on foot. Officers arriving a few minutes later apparently saw someone matching his description behind the Ammouri gas station at the corner of Main and Maple Street. As they turned around, he fled but a car believed to be involved in the alleged break-in was spotted behind the station. In it, police found the girl and Ms. Vaitses, as well as various items — cell phones, GPS units, radar detectors and more — that police believe were stolen.

Under questioning, the girls apparently implicated Mr. Hebert and Warren officers asked Bristol to be on the lookout for him. Last Thursday, Bristol police arrested him on the Warren charges and added additional charges of their own as well, including drug possession, simple assault and resisting arrest. Warren police said some of the items found in the car were returned to their rightful owners in Bristol.

There is no prior record listed for Ms. Vaitses in the state criminal information database. But Mr. Hebert has an extensive adult record that began in 2007 and includes arrests for felony assault, first and second degree robbery, felony conspiracy, drug possession, breaking and entering, domestic assault, disorderly conduct, using a firearm during a violent crime, and leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury or death.
