PROVIDENCE — Portsmouth and Mt. Hope High School was among the teams vying Thursday night, Feb. 9, for the Medium Class Girls’ Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet title at the Providence Career & Tech Fieldhouse, the Patriots finishing fourth and the Huskies sixth in a group of 11.

Toll Gate claimed the championship with 88 points. Hope and South Kingstown shared second with 82 apiece. Portsmouth was next with 44. Westerly followed in fifth with 36 then Mt. Hope with 34. East Providence’s Bay View was seventh with 33.

Each of the three local entries received a first-place effort. Portsmouth’s Jess Kaufman won the Medium Class championship in the 55-meter hurdles with her time of 9.2 seconds. Bay View’s Erica Johnson defended her class crown in the 600 meters, besting the competition by five seconds with her winning time of 1:38.8. And the Mt. Hope 4x400 relay team of Megan Vento, Kylie McPherson, Nicole Rusin and Meghan Rainville were class champs after clocking a time of 4:13.3.
