Public housing goes smoke-free

— On March 1, smoking will be banned in all apartments and administrative buildings at Benjamin Church Manor, 1014 Hope St.

The Bristol Housing Authority board if commissioners recently approved the policy because of the dangers of second-hand smoke to all and especially for people on respirators or have heart-related conditions.

Executive director Candace Pansa said they will address the challenge for smokers by offering smoking-cessation programs.

The housing authority anticipates a reduction in maintenance costs since tobacco smoke causes damage to the buildings.
